Literacy
Literacy is the ability to access, understand and use language. The English curriculum outlines reading, writing, speaking and listening that are fundamental to student learning.
‘The study of English is central to the learning and development of all young Australians. It helps create confident communicators, imaginative thinkers and informed citizens.’ Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority
At St. Patrick’s we place high priority on student learning in literacy as a foundation stone for lifelong learning. Dedicated class time, targeted teaching and the use of ongoing assessment are used to ensure the needs of the students are being met. It is our goal for all students to be able to use English language purposefully and effectively.
